“So glad that you could all find time in your busy schedule to join us,” Theo addresses us as we draw closer.

“So nice of you to leave your fan club and fit us into your busy day. I hope you scrubbed your body after Brooke practically drooled all over you. Wouldn’t want to catch any life-threatening diseases from that skank,” I reply vehemently.

Theo’s eyebrows quirk up at me, “My, my, someone got on my little sister’s hate list.”

“You have no fucking idea,” I snarl savagely.

“Well, it’s a good thing to have pent-up aggression because you will need it to fuel this first lesson,” Theo replies with amusement.

“Which is?”

“Obstacle course. We need to get all of your fitness up to par and make you all nimble to cross anything in your path,” Theo informs us with a smirk.

“Of course, mom put in an obstacle course here,” I chuckle. “Why does that not surprise me?”

“Probably because it helped make her into the greatest assassin ever known,” Cade chuckles. “Your mom was a badass even before becoming a tribrid or queen.”

Pride swells within me as I hear my mom’s praises being sung. She is my idol, my hero, the greatest woman I have ever known.

“Come on. We’re wasting time. We have an extra set of SSA workout clothes for you to change into in the cottage. Go in, get changed, and get your asses back here pronto,” Duncan barks out.

Once we are all changed, we quickly get back outside. We follow our new teachers around to the back of the cottage and into the forest. There set up in all of its glory is the obstacle course. It’s set up almost identically to the one we have back home. Ava and I trained mercilessly on the course. There are two side-by-side courses, so you can race a person to make it more challenging.

“What the fuck is that?” Axel asks with surprise.

“The obstacle course,” Duncan replies with a shrug. “As you can see, there are two identical courses. When you get good enough, you will begin racing against one another.”

“Are you fucking kidding me? We will get killed on that thing!” Axel exclaims.

“It’s really not that bad once you get used to it,” I assure Axel as I pat him on the shoulder.

Axel just hangs his head and shakes it in defeat, “Okay, let’s get this over.”

“How about a demonstration first,” Cade suggests.

Every one of my friends nods enthusiastically, except Ava. We don’t need a demonstration, we could run this course with our eyes closed.

“Good, Kat and Ava line up. You’re going to race,” Theo announces.

“No way in hell is Kat racing on that thing. Are you crazy? That thing will kill her for sure!” Hunter protests.

Theo gets up in Hunter’s face looking irritated. “Do you really think that I would put my little sister and future queen in danger? Do you think I would let her race on something if I didn’t feel she could handle it?”

Hunter lowers his head, “I guess not, but I still don’t like it.
